Futrus® Image Headwall Proves Ideal Solution
St. Luke’s Hospital, located in Chesterfield, Missouri, is a regional healthcare provider committed to improving the quality of life for patients and the community. The 493-bed, not-for-profit hospital offers more than 60 specialty areas from cardiovascular care to surgery and maternity. St. Luke’s is the only St. Louis hospital recognized as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals™ by Healthgrades®.
In 2014, St. Luke’s completed a major phase of a multi-year renovation to its Maternity Services Department. Designed to benefit patients and families, the all-private Birth Care Suites were remodeled with new furniture and décor.
Renovation Solution
TKH, Inc. was set with the task of designing the renovations of St. Lukes Hospital Birth Care Suites. The hospital required a less institutional, more homelike environment. THK Inc. worked closely with Futrus® to develop a headwall solution that met the medical, functional and aesthetic needs of the new Birth Care Suites’ environment. The Futrus® Image Headwall enabled the hospital to utilize the location of the existing outlets and dramatically reduce the overall cost of the renovation without the added cost of re-working existing services.
Adaptable Design
John Hartley, Project Coordinator at TKH, Inc., comments on the effect, “The labor and delivery rooms feel more like a hotel room than a hospital room.” The Futrus® Image Headwall conceals leads, gas taps and medical equipment behind a single piece of wall mounted artwork, creating a more patient friendly space. Futrus® designers were able to customize both the cabinet framing and the artwork, to compliment existing finishes.
Functional Durability
The artwork is created using DuPont™ Corian® solid surface. The flush, single panel made of Corian® gives dirt and grime no crevices in which to hide, making cleaning quick and easy. “The ability to integrate durability and the ability to properly clean Corian® is an important feature that separates this product from others on the market,” highlights Hartley. The artwork is mounted on a counterbalanced vertical sliding system providing caregivers with easy, instant access whenever needed. With this remodel, Hartley had to keep existing lighting components of the rooms, which were integrated into the overall vision of the space. “The vertical slide function of the door was ideal…,” commented Hartley.
Customizable and Cost-Effective
“We take as much pride in our design process as we do with our solutions,” states Mark Allen, President of Futrus®. This is backed up by Hartley. “Futrus® listened to our comments and concerns and improved on each mock-up until the design was just right,” said Hartley. The Futrus® Image Headwall was very cost-effective compared to other headwalls, and it was unique as it was an all-inclusive package.
