TKH was commissioned by Mercy Hospital Washington, to develop concept plans for an expansion of its Emergency Department.  The adjacent main Lab was relocated to another floor and the vacated ±5,000 sf was available for ED expansion.  A new walk-in entry was developed for greater visibility for patients.

Phasing the construction in an active ED was one of the design considerations through the course of the project.  Once completed, the 13,700 sf ED included 3 critical care rooms and 25 treatment rooms, 4 of which were designed especially for Pediatrics.
